Have you ever travelled alone, especially on a bike? It can be so much fun! Let me tell you how much fun it is and why you should try it out too (if you haven’t)
Why I love travel solo with a bike
Go with my own pace: There is no rush at all. I can just take a rest whenever I want. I can stay at a spot as long as I want. I can decide how fast and how far I want to go in a day. There is no string attached at all. I don’t have to wait for anybody and let others affect my cycling travelling plan.
Stay close with nature: I don’t have to get inside within a train or a bus. Instead, I can feel the fresh air, enjoy the beautiful views or simply smell the grass and flowers on the way.
Save money: Travelling doesn’t have to be expensive. Using a bike can cut a lot of costs on public transportation fees which are normally big parts of travelling budget.
Tips for solo cycling and travelling trips
Plan ahead: There are many different things you need to put into your preparation before the trip. Planning ahead will potentially save you from possible risks
Invest in a good bike: Obviously a good bike is very important to have an enjoyable cycling travel trip. For those who bike all the way on their trips, a mountain bike is highly recommended. But for me who love to mix up between biking on my own and using public transportation, a folding bike is very convenient and suitable choice. My personal recommendation for a good folding bike for your cycling and travelling trip is Dahon Speed P8 folding bike.
Prepare your physical condition: You can start trying with short one day trips if you haven’t got familiar with such intense activities.
If you are a fan of travelling and biking, why not combine them into one? I hope you can find out one new hobby to make your life much more enjoyable and livable.

- Plan your routes: In my opinion, this step is the most important in the planning process. What are the conditions of your cycling routes? Will your routes have a lot of up and down hills or are they mostly flat roads? Will you ride your bike the whole way or mix up with public transportation as well?
- Plan your belongings: Travel light is always my priorities. However, there are things I never want to cut down, especially items related to safety. You may want to do a bit research to learn from other cycling travellers’ experiences.
- Plan your nutrition: Travelling with a bike requires a lot of physical energy, thus I tend to eat much more than just regular travelling. I normally bring along energy bar and all necessary snacks which help me to boost up my energy.
